Reading from Scripture: Luke 22: v14-20
When the hour came he took his place at table, and the apostles with him. And he said to them, "I have longed to eat this passover with you before I suffer; because, I tell you, I shall not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God."
Then, taking a cup, he gave thanks and said, "Take this adn share it among you, because from now on, I tell you, I shall not drink wine until the kingdom of God comes."
Then he took some bread, and when he had given thanks, broke it and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body which will be given for you; do this as a memorial of me." He did the same with the cup after supper, ane said, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood which will be poured out for you."
Meditation: Jesus, "your state was divine, yet you did not cling to equality with God but emptied yourself to assume the condition of a slave, and became as men are, and being as all men are, you were humbler yet, even to accepting death, death on a cross" (Phil 2; v6). When you washed your disciples' feet before the Last Supper you gave us an example so that we may copy what you have done. Through the sacrifice of the Mass you give yourself to us, body, blood, soul and divinity. Through the gift of the Eucharist may we live your new commandment: "Love one another; just as I have loved you, you also must love one another" (Jn 13; v35).
Eternal Father, we thank you for the gift of your Son. In contemplating Him, we come to know you, all good and loving Father. I trust in your loving Providence for my life.
Mary, my Mother, help me to reverence your Son Jesus, truly present in all the tabernacles of the world. By the love we have for one another, may everyone know we are your Son's disciples.
"Today we recall the Last Supper of the Lord with his disciples and there are two things that are prominent, but they're very connected. One is the washing of the disciples' feet and the second is the giving of Himself in the bread and wine of their supper which, in our Mass, becomes His Body and Blood."
